Tree wraps to add festive cheer

Sapphire Coast Toti Tourism (SCTT) wants to improve on the Christmas lights that get put up in along Beach Road during the festive season.

“These lights have seen better days and have passed their expiry dates, so we need to come up with a solution,” said SCTT chairman, Jacques van Schalkwyk. “One idea is to wrap trees in Rogies Park and along Beach Road with material and fairy lights, similar to what they do in Florida Road every year. We hope NPOs, NGOs, schools and other civic organisations will get involved in this project and ‘rent’ a tree, which can be wrapped in their colours.”

Each tree wrap will cost in the region of R950. “This will look absolutely amazing if we can get it right, but will need some serious community involvement. This is merely a suggestion, but if no other suggestions are received we are going to try and make this a reality with the assistance of the community. We would like to extend this project into our other areas as well to turn this into an annual occasion of ‘turning on the lights’ and request community involvement.

Anyone from the community that would like to get actively involved in specific tasks for tourism can contact Jacques on 084-097-9494 or email chairman@totitourism.co.za.
