Goat carcasses ‘part of muthi rituals’

Two Toti residents believe they may have the answer to recent media reports of goat carcasses floating in the Toti River, near the old River Gardens site.

Robert Phorie and Michael Fraser said they believed it could be part of ‘muthi’ rituals after they discovered some alarming items in the vicinity.

“We took a break from work at the river and we discovered four or five knives with wooden handles lying on the river bank,” said Robert.

“We also discovered plastic dolls and roots punctured with lots of sewing pins with coloured heads. They were placed in holes and covered with black cloth.

We were shocked. We believe it is muthi-related and linked to the recent goat carcasses found in the river. We also discovered bones at the site and pangas cut into the trees. We haven’t been back there since.”
