Amanzimtoti Methodist Church distributes books, food
The Book Dash initiative, which distributes books to preschools in rural areas, aims to provide each child with 100 books before they begin school.
THE Amanzimtoti Methodist Church facilitated the distribution of books to children at the Uthando Childcare Centre and a preschool in KwaMakhutha on October 2.
The church’s Trish Warner said that they act as an intermediary between organisations and preschools in and around the area, ensuring that resources reach those in need.

“Our latest outreach programme includes distributing books from Book Dash, whose aim is to provide each child with a set of 100 books before they begin school,” she said.
The children at Uthando were thrilled to receive three books each. Warner said the Book Dash collection features progressive learning material, starting with picture-only books for toddlers and gradually introducing simple sentences as the children develop.
“Dolly Kweyama, who started the childcare centre 31 years ago, has 60 children with three dedicated teachers. She was delighted to receive the books as they will be useful for all ages in her care,” she said.
The church’s other initiative, supported by Blessman International, distributes four tons of food per month to 18 preschools, including Uthando.
