Ward 90 councillor Shad Nowbuth said the stretch of the M35 between Citrus Drive and Platt Drive was chaotic during peak times, with some motorists disregarding the rules of the road and making it unsafe for other road users.

“The actions of motorists who totally disregard traffic rules and regulations on public roads and compromise the safety of law-abiding motorists and road users are unacceptable. The traffic department is fully aware of this and has communicated for positive actions to be taken in this regard,” said Nowbuth.

He commended the officers who started to direct traffic from 06:30 on the first day.

“Reports were received of a smooth flow of traffic. The presence of traffic officers on this stretch of the M35, especially during morning peak times, is most certainly needed,” he said.

He added that further engagements are scheduled with the head of metro police in the ward regarding traffic-related matters, the outcomes of which will be relayed to the community.
