1st Umbogintwini Scouts support SPCA

The Scouts collected 60 animal food items for the Amanzimtoti SPCA by making it part of the entrance fee to their spring fête.

IN an effort to raise funds and give back to charity, the 1st Umbogintwini Scout Group held a fun-filled Spring Family Fête on September 24.

There were 14 vendors at RE/MAX Toti selling crafts, homemade delights, food, fresh produce, jewellery, plants, sweets and more. To add to the day, there was a jumping castle and raffle.

Troop Scouter Adele Wilson said that community service is one of the cornerstones of Scouts. “The fête was held for three reasons: to bring the community together, to raise funds for our group and to support our SPCA,” she said.

Amanzimtoti SPCA‘s Michelle Hannan said they received 60 items of food and had their own bookstore which raised over R500.

“Thank you for helping us out and collecting food for us as part of the entrance fee to the fête,” she said.

Wilson added that the aim of scouting is to contribute to the development of boys, girls and young adults in achieving their full potential as individuals, responsible citizens and members of their local, national and international communities.

“This is done by developing their character, training them in citizenship, developing their spiritual, social, intellectual and physical qualities as well as developing their leadership potential and skills,” she said.
