The event introduced a brand-new start and finish at the Crocworld Conservation Centre, with participants choosing from 5km and 12km trail runs, or 12km, 20km and 45km mountain bike races. Sappi, the event’s title sponsor, continues to play a pivotal role in supporting this popular multi-sport event, which draws both athletes and adventure enthusiasts to Scottburgh and the South Coast. The region benefits from the influx of visitors as events like this help boost the local economy by supporting vendors and businesses.

This year’s routes catered to all fitness levels, offering both family-friendly options and more challenging courses for seasoned athletes. The shift from the traditional Scottburgh beach location to Crocworld provided participants with a hassle-free experience, addressing previous parking and logistical concerns.

In a statement, Sappi said its involvement in the event forms part of their broader Sappi Trails Programme which launched in 2011 to support local economies and communities surrounding their forests.

“This initiative aligns with our 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, which focus on creating shared value and social. Many of our employees are avid runners, riders and conservationists, making the Sappi Scottburgh event a perfect family day for everyone,” it said.

The Amanzimtoti Cycling Club had several riders take part in the 20km mountain bike race. Club members, Leigh Middleborough, Tracy Holtzhausen, and Tracy Lundberg, tackled the muddy course, finishing the ride with big smiles and very muddy bikes.

“It was a great ride despite the mud!” they said.

This year’s event combined adventure, family fun and a celebration of the South Coast’s stunning natural beauty, making it a memorable Heritage weekend for all involved.
