Take part in the first-ever Amanzimtoti tri dash

The triathlon will feature three rounds of continuous 200m swim, 3km cycle and 1km run and serves as a fundraiser for Bridget Theunissen, a South African short-distance triathlete. In addition, Operation Bobbi Bear and the Amanzimtoti SPCA will also benefit from the proceeds.

THE Splash Waterworld Tri Dash, a first of its kind in Africa, will be taking place at Amanzimtoti Main Beach on August 25 from 07:00. The triathlon promises exciting races, prizes and community fun.

The format will feature three rounds of continuous 200m swim, 3km cycle and 1km run. The entry fee includes a goodie pack, a day pass to Splash, a delicious bacon-and-egg roll and more. Plus, 5% of each entry will go towards supporting Operation Bobbi Bear and the Amanzimtoti SPCA.

One of the organisers, Bridget Theunissen, collaborated with renowned triathlete and coach Glen Gore to bring this unique event to South Africa.

“The format is inspired by the popular Super League Triathlon, featuring a series of short, fast races. Our aim is to create an inclusive event that engages the entire community—from participants and spectators to local businesses and organisations,” she said, adding that there will be plenty of entertainment and giveaways.

The event is also a fundraiser for Theunissen, who is a South African short-distance triathlete and who has to self-fund her international trips.

“I’m a reserve for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, and in September, I’ll be competing in two world cups in the Czech Republic and Spain. These events will serve as important preparation for the U23 World Championships in Torremolinos, Spain. My goal is to finish in the top 10 and to continue working towards a spot in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.” she said.

Theunissen will also be at the Amanzimtoti Parkrun on July 27 and would love to connect with the community and build excitement for the tri dash. Every participant will receive a free bacon-and-egg roll.
