The annual 10km running event is hosted by DHS Old Boys Athletic Club. Chairperson Justin Fuller said this event gives ‘oldies’ an opportunity to get involved in the KZN Athletics running calendar, and provides athletes from various clubs an opportunity to enjoy an undulating run around the wonderful suburb of Durban North.

“Seventy-seven clubs were represented on the day, with 1 026 athletes taking part. The day went well in terms of the weather – it was overcast and cool with a light south-westerly breeze, ideal for running,” he said.

AAC members Margaret and Frikkie Botes took part for the third time, both in the 60+ category.

Margaret said, “The race was challenging due to the hills, but the last 1km was all downhill. Overall, we enjoyed the race and day. We run separately as we race against each other. We bettered last year’s finishing times by seven minutes. I finished in a time of 01:08:49 and my husband in a time of 01:10:25.”

The couple, who joined the club seven years ago to keep fit and healthy, will also be taking part in the 15km Beds2Go 2023 Stainbank Cup in Yellowwood Park on December 3, and the 15km Christmas Challenge in Westville on December 10.
