Amanzimtoti soccer players receive recognition, awards

Toti United Football Club's U15 coach hosts a separate awards ceremony to recognise and award each player.

AS the season officially comes to an end, Toti United Football Club’s U15s played a 5-a-side tournament before being presented with player awards on November 4.

Coach Derrick Pillay said they hold their own awards ceremony to show the boys appreciation for the effort, time and commitment they dedicate to the team.

“Some of our boys walk from the location just to attend training, so our way of acknowledging their commitment is by holding a special presentation where they all get recognised and awarded,” he said.

Before the awards, there were three teams participating in a knock-out tournament to earn additional trophies to take home.

The awards were presented to the following players: Players of the Year went to Amenallah Brahim and Lwazi Xaba, Sportsmen of the Year went to Aashief Lawrence and Jaydon du Plooy, Most Improved Player went to Thapelo Teba, Most Outstanding Improvement went to Thulani Nzimande, Most Dedicated Player went to Aashief Lawrence and Most Valuable Player went to Thulani Nzimande.

Pillay said the day marked the end of the official season and a farewell to the U15 division, as the boys will be moving up to the U17 league next year. “We believe that with continued training and development, our U17 team will become a formidable force. Well done boys, and thank you for always showing up,” he said.

Pillay added that they hope to do this every year; including presenting awards, hosting a small tournament, and having a braai for the players.

The U15 management extend thanks to the sponsors who helped make the presentation a success; South African Freight Services, NMR Trucking, CTS Auto, Dr. AM Kgatle at Kingsway Hospital, Longbury Meat Market, as well the coach and the manager, Sharleen du Plooy.
