Ward 90 councillor Sunil Brijmohan's driver is believed to be involved in the murder.

A MAN who is believed to be involved in the plot to kill former Ward 90 councillor Sunil Brijmohan, appeared in the Umlazi Magistrate’s Court on November 13. Brijmohan (46) was shot and killed in cold blood at his construction site in Amanzimtoti on October 2022.

Vikash Brian Sewnath who is said to have been Brijmohan’s driver was arrested on November 11. Brijmohan was shot at point-blank range by two men who walked up to him as he supervised work at his Cato Crescent site on October 21, 2022, shortly after Sewnath had allegedly dropped him off. Video footage from a surveillance camera showed Brijmohan being dropped off by a white car, and it showed the killers walking away as Brijmohan lay dying after they shot him in the head.

The killers were arrested in December last year and were recently sentenced to 18 years each. They have since turned state witnesses and will provide evidence in Sewnath’s case.

National Prosecuting Authority’s provincial spokesperson, Natasha Kara, said Sewnath faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder, as well as unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

The case was postponed to November 27 for bail application which Kara said the state plans to oppose.
