New officer for Toti beaches appointed

Before being appointed as a law enforcement officer, Mark Barber was a lifesaver for 22 years.

FORMER senior lifesaver at Baggies Beach, Mark Barber, has been appointed as an Ethekwini Metro law enforcement officer for beaches. He reported for his first day of duty in his new position at the Amanzimtoti Main Beach on October 10.

With a lifesaving experience of 22 years, Mark said he is happy that he is going to continue serving the people of the South Coast and visitors to the area.

“I kept people safe in the water for 22 years; now I will be keeping them safe when they are out of the water,” said Barber.

Beach manager Jace Govender and Ward 97 councillor André Beetge were at hand to welcome Barber. Beetge wished Barber well in his new position, saying the beach is in good hands.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better officer because he knows all our beaches very well, having worked in the entire 31km stretch of the coast north of Umkomaas. Everyone is in safe hands,” said Beetge.
