Tactical work leads to recovery and arrest in Isipingo

A man was arrested and charged after being found in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

TACTICAL work by members of Isipingo Crime Prevention B-Group led to the swift recovery of a firearm and ammunition, and arrest recently.

Isipingo Police Station’s communication officer, Warrant Officer Pam Kisten, said members who are tasked with infiltrating hotspot areas were patrolling along Lotus Road in Isipingo when they noticed a suspicious man on foot.

“Members tactically approached the suspect and requested to search him, which he didn’t refuse for them to do. Members recovered a black Star pistol from his groin area. The serial number on the pistol was filed off, and it had a magazine containing eight live 9mm rounds and one 9mm round in the chamber,” she said.

Kisten said the suspect was arrested and has since been formally charged. “The firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if it can be linked to any other crimes,” she added.

The SAPS management congratulated the team on their hard work and other consistent recoveries.
