eThekwini’s stolen car recovered in Isipingo

Two cars were recovered on the premises.

ON MONDAY, August 28, an eThekwini Municipality bakkie that had been hijacked in KwaMashu two days earlier was recovered in Isipingo.

Metro Police spokesperson Colonel Boyzie Zungu said information had been received that the Isuzu double-cab bakkie was parked at 9 Keerath Road. The car belonged to the City’s Electricity Department.

“Our team acted swiftly on the information, and upon arrival, the members noticed the rear of an Isuzu double-cab parked on the side of the house that matched the description of the Electricity Department Isuzu vehicle,” said Zungu.

The gate of the property was unlocked, which allowed the Metro Police and an SAPS team to enter. They then positively verified that the car was the same one that had been hijacked. The number plates had since been changed.

“Our members then noticed there was a white Nissan NP200 with no rear registration plate. Its ignition was broken, and the interior had been stripped. The verification process showed that it had been stolen in Mariannhill,” he said.

A man who was inside the house managed to flee from the officers through the back door and jumped over the boundary wall. In the house, the police found an AK47 and ammunition.
