PHOTOS: Amanzimtoti plays host to Ink & Iron 2023

The fun-filled day had one-of-a-kind motorcycles on display, the best tattoo artists in the country and plenty of prizes up for grabs.

THE sound of motorcycles revving and tattoo guns buzzing filled the air at the KZN leg of the annual Ink & Iron showcase, hosted in The Square at the Toti CBD recently.

The day, organised by the Crusaders Motorcycle Club, saw about a thousand people make their way through the gates to spectate exotic and one-of-a-kind motorcycles on display, alongside some of the best tattoo artists in the country.

Prizes for the best realism, best large, best small, and best of show design were awarded to tattoo artists, while bikers won prizes for bike of the day, best bobber, best chopper, coolest rat bike, café racer and best street fighter, The day included a live band, DJ, food and market stalls, and much more.

Ward 97 councillor, André Beetge, said since the arrival of Galleria Mall, locals have been demanding a turnaround strategy for the old CBD, now referred to as The Square.

“A tremendous amount of money and effort is being applied towards this, albeit that we find more support from outside the town than from within when these events are hosted. It could well be that the organisers are lacking in advertising, but there remains the perception of high criminal activity. This is a mere perception, as there are safe parking facilities within the constraints of a fenced and gated environment,” he said.

Beetge added that the area is in the process of rejuvenation. “We would really appreciate more buy-in from our community to make this a success,” he concluded.
