Toti pit bull is a good boy

Hogan the pit bull was rescued from a shelter and was a perfect fit with the Van Zyl family.

A SWEET boy and a gentle giant are some of the words that Hogan’s owner, Jasmine van Zyl, uses to describe him.

The pair were out and about recently, mingling with crowds at The Square during the Family Fun Day. When the SUN asked her about her dog and how well-behaved it was in the crowds and playing with children, Jasmine said she does not understand the unfair flack pit bulls get.

“Yes, pit bulls are big dogs, but every dog is unique and has its own personality. The size doesn’t necessarily make them aggressive,” said Jasmine.

Her journey with her furry baby started in October last year after she saw a post on the SerindiPitty Rescue Facebook page of Hogan looking for a forever home.

“At the time, I wasn’t looking to adopt a pet but as cliché as it sounds, Hogan found me. There was something about his face that drew me to him, and I decided to go to the SerindiPitty Rescue kennels to meet him,” said Jasmine.

After a few more visits, the adoption process was finalised, and Hogan could go to his new home.

“He fits perfectly within our family, and my husband and two children love him to bits. He is such a gentle boy and a good soul,” she said.

Hogan, who is neutered, did not mind when children came close to pat and play with him. Because of stories people have heard about pit bulls, Jasmine said that most people will get out of the way when she walks her dog.

“Then there are those who will approach and ask questions about Hogan. Pit bulls are intelligent, and it is very important to know your dog well, whatever breed it is,” she said.

She stressed the importance of owners taking their dogs out for a walk to prevent frustration.
