Youth health promoted in Malukazi

The Adolescent and Youth Health Policy aims to promote the health and wellbeing of young people, aged 10 - 24 years.

TO MARK the end of Youth Month, eThekwini Municipality’s Health Unit hosted a youth and adolescent outreach programme on June 30 in Malukazi near Isipingo.

The event was held at Windy Heights Primary School to highlight the importance of adolescent youth-friendly services at health facilities in line with the Adolescent and Youth Health Policy. The policy aims to promote the health and wellbeing of young people, aged 10 – 24 years.

Speakers encouraged young people to speak up and take control of their health by visiting local clinics. They stressed the importance of getting tested for HIV/TB and using preventive measures, especially for those engaging in sexual activities. Health services that were offered to young people included HIV testing, TB testing, pap smears, PrEP, the Covid-19 vaccination, immunisations, and x-rays.

Health officials from the Aurum Institute, Health Systems Trust, the Department of Health, and TB HIVCARE were present to assist and offer advice.
