Kingsburgh Lions Club screen learners’ eyes

The children who may need prescription glasses will receive further treatment and glasses sponsored by the Lions, through its Brightsight project.

THE Kingsburgh Lions Club recently held eye screenings for 675 children at Sewula Primary School in eZimangweni to assist with prescription glasses for those in need.

The club’s president, Tony Marron, said they have been supporting Lions Brightsight project for many years and have subsidised glasses for hundreds of people who could not afford them.

The Lions were assisted by Usizo-Lomndeni.org, which works with children and families in the area.

“Sixty-one of the children who may need prescription glasses will get further treatment by an optometrist before glasses are made for them. The whole process and glasses will be sponsored by Kingsburgh Lions Club, Lions Brightsight and a grant from Lions Clubs International Foundation,” he said.

Marron said the whole school was excited about it. “We planned on being there for at least three days, but because of the excellent discipline and planning by the children and school management, we screened in just over seven hours in two days,” he said.

Helping people with sight issues and blindness is a core activity of Lions all over the world.

“Lions are making a difference in thousands of people’s lives every day that need help with their sight. Our club is delighted we can be part of this work in our community,” said Marron.
