Jona Vaughan receives meat donation

The home has been in the news for not having enough resources for its residents.

THE Amanzimtoti Masonic English Lodge facilitated a donation of well-needed food at the Jona Vaughan Home for the Handicapped on Tuesday, June 27.

Tony Hill, who is the charity steward for the lodge, said the donation came after a need to help the home’s residents who cannot help themselves. The Amanzimtoti Masonic English Lodge was started in 1931 by a Mr Hutchison whom Hutchison Park is named after. Hutchison donated a section of his farm to be used by the community for sports activities.

“We work for charity and support those in need. This year, I’m the charity steward, and my charity of choice has been Jona Vaughan after hearing of the problems they are going through. I have approached various people to get food for them, and one of those people is PJ Botha from Glass & Aluminium Craft. When I phoned him, he said, ‘Come and see me’, and he loaded up all this meat. I would like to thank him so much for what he has done,” said Hill.

Botha also hunts, and because it is hunting season, he provided all this venison. Hill provided lemons that grow from his tree at home.

“We have also supplied chemicals for the pool, and we will continue helping these people who can’t help themselves,” said Hill.

He said that the Amanzimtoti Masonic English Lodge is a charity organisation like others and not a secret society as some believe.

The Jona Vaughan Home for the Handicapped has recently been featured on a number of Facebook groups where the dire situation of its residents was a cause for concern as it was revealed that food stocks are running low.
