Gary Coetzee of Gary’s Horses did not attend the ceremony because he did not receive an invitation, but a delegation from Durban Tourism came to Amanzimtoti recently to hand him the prize for being the second runner-up in the environmental category.

At the awards ceremony, eThekwini Municipality mayor Mxolisi Kaunda said the awards aim to ensure that local tourism businesses remain relevant and that Durban remains a destination of choice for visitors.

“Tourism is an important sector that contributes significantly to the city’s economy. Our aim is to encourage more investment in the industry. We are excited to host the second edition of these prestigious awards. It is an important initiative by the City as we seek to recognise and encourage small and big businesses in the tourism sector,” said Kaunda.

He added that the DTBA strive to identify and award excellent products within the sector which can be packaged and marketed nationally and globally to attract visitors to eThekwini.

The prize accepted by Coetzee included a laptop and a printer.

“Thanks to everyone who assisted me in achieving this prestigious reward. It was a team effort,” Coetzee said.
