Local Comrades runner improves time

Daniel Adonis has just clocked his best time since he started running the marathon in 2009.

WHEN Daniel Adonis was preparing for this year’s Comrades Marathon, his aim was to finish it in less than seven hours.

His hard work paid off as he crossed the finish line in Durban at 06:58:46, beating his previous record of 7 hours and 11 minutes.

Adonis of Felekisi is a Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) security guard and has run every Comrades since 2009, with the exception of 2019 when he had an injury.

“I’m very happy with this achievement, and it would not have been possible without the support I received from so many people. I would like to thank the CCPO for the encouragement; Joe Puren for sponsoring my running shoes; Bharat Dhinnath for sponsoring my supplements; Kicko Cele, my running partner, and Nkosie Simelane,” said Adonis.

He said his sights are already set on the 2024 Comrades where he hopes to do even better.
