Transnet teaches fire safety at Windy Heights

The event was part of the International Firefighters’ Day celebrations.

WINDY Heights Primary School recently hosted firefighters from Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) to belatedly celebrate International Firefighters’ Day, which is observed every year on May 4.

International Firefighters’ Day was constituted to honour firefighters’ sacrifices to ensure their communities and the environment are safe. It is also a day in which current and past firefighters can be thanked for their contributions.

In a statement, TNPA said the visit was an outreach programme to educate learners of Windy Heights Primary School about fire safety and proper response to fire emergencies in the wake of the winter season.

“The winter season usually sees an increase in fire-related incidences. Spreading awareness helps to equip children with the essential knowledge and skills to reduce such incidents and ensure the safety of their families and communities,” said TNPA.

The school said it was privileged to host TNPA, and the learners learnt a lot and enjoyed the programme.
