Amanzimtoti SPCA open day a success

The animal shelter hosts open days to showcase the work it does, in an effort to raise much-needed funds for the animals in its care.

THE Amanzimtoti SPCA were thrilled with the turnout at their open day on May 27 and thanked its volunteers and supporters for raising much-needed funds.

The fun-filled day saw volunteers and stallholders sell delicious breakfast rolls and baked goods, arts and crafts, books and more at their stalls. The SPCA’s charity shop also had items on special, and there were plenty of animals to pet.

In an attempt to raise awareness and much-needed funds for the animals in its care, the Amanzimtoti SPCA hosts open days to showcase the work it does.

The SPCA’s Michelle Hannan said, “Unfortunately, we are really struggling financially at the moment. All funds raised will go towards our daily running costs.”

She added that, “We were truly blessed with wonderful weather, and despite weather reports saying it will be windy, this did not deter the public.”

Hannan extended thanks to the volunteers, Tara and Rohan Aberdeen who cooked up a storm with their vegan food, as well as Graham and Linda Both, and their friends, for making pancakes.

“A thank you also goes to those who supported our market by taking stalls, the public for their generous donations and support, as well as our hardworking staff, committee members and management who made the day possible,” she said.

The SPCA charity shop’s stock is running low, and they are in need of second-hand, usable items that can be sold to help raise funds. “We are also looking for pot plant holders for volunteers to paint, so we can sell,” added Hannan.
