Kingsway Hospital donates food to Operation Bobbi Bear
To honour Children's Day, the paediatric department donated a food hamper to the non-profit organisation it works hand-in-hand with.
IN HONOUR of Children’s Day on June 1, Kingsway Hospital’s paediatric department held a bumblebee-themed fun day and donated a grocery hamper to Operation Bobbi Bear.
The hospital’s patient-centred care liaison, Kimberley Brauns, said, “As we all know, whether children are ill or well, they are always busy bees.”

She said that the children were all in high spirits, jumping up and down and dancing with the staff. “One of the moms was brought to tears to see her daughter running around after being in bed for three days, not wanting any activity,” said Brauns.
They chose Bobbi Bear as a beneficiary because they are a non-profit organisation in the heart of the Amanzimtoti community, who often do not get the support they need.
“Yet, they always have open arms when children need them. Patients in the paediatric unit are being referred and assisted by Bobbi Bear, so they are very close to the nurses in the unit’s hearts, as well as the paediatricians,” said Brauns.
Sister Shireen Pillay had challenged the hearts of her staff and her doctors to share a few essential food items with the children at the facility. “They all accepted and definitely assisted,” added Brauns.
