Khanya Hospice needs shop volunteers

The hospice needs volunteers to help out at one of its three charity shops.

KHANYA Hospice is appealing to members of the community to assist the organisation by volunteering at one of their three hospice shops.

The hospice’s CEO, Neil McDonald, said they have had many kind people helping, but since Covid-19, they have not been able to get their elderly volunteers back into the shops.

“People were just too scared to get into contact with other people, like we all were. But, we are making an appeal to men and women, who have some time on their hands, to please come and help in either our Pennington, Scottburgh or Amanzimtoti charity shop,” he said.

Volunteers can work at their own time: a morning, afternoon or whole day. “You can arrange for a time that suits you with the shop manager,” said Neil.

Community members are also encouraged to donate new or second-hand clothes, bric-a-brac, furniture, cutlery, crockery and so forth.

These items are put up for sale to help sustain the free nursing care that hospice offers to people with life-threatening diseases, as well as support to their families.

Donations can be dropped off at their Amanzimtoti Hospice Shop at 400 Andrew Zondo Road, above Vikings Fish and Chips. They are also available for collection.
