Toti United juniors prepare for season kick off

The club's chairperson, Zenzo Ncube, said there are very few clubs with girls teams in Durban, at a junior level, and they encourage other clubs and parents to support a girl in football.

TOTI United Football Club’s players are in the final rounds of their 5-a-side indoor and beach football league friendlies, until the official season kicks off in April.

The off-season league is to keep the players active and learning in preparation for the upcoming season. The league, which started on November 5 last year, sees games being played at Toti Main Beach and at Kingsway High School.

The age groups range from U13 to U16, with six teams in total, some being from outside the area. Toti United’s teams are split into Toti Eagles, Toti Dolphins and Toti Tigers. Unfortunately, due to a lack of opponents the club has had to mix the girls with the boys in order to give the girls more game time.

The club’s chairperson, Zenzo Ncube, said there are very few clubs with girls teams in Durban, at a junior level, and they encourage other clubs and parents to support a girl in football.

On February 12, parents, supporters and teammates could be heard cheering on their respective teams during the action-packed game day. “The club performed well on the day, with Toti Eagles winning both its games. Unfortunately, Toti Dolphins and Toti Tigers lost their weekend games. It is a good learning curve for the club and good preparation for the upcoming season,” said Ncube.

The results on the day are as follows: Toti Tigers 2-5 Toti Eagles, LSA (Langalibalele Sports Academy) Mambas 7-6 FDC (Future Development Academy), Toti Dolphins 0-5 LSA Dolphins, FDC 2-3 Toti Eagles, LSA Dolphins 5-3 LSA Mambas and Toti Dolphins 5-4 Toti Tigers.

The finals are set to take place on February 26, where the log leaders will be crowned.
