Pregnancy centre offers free counselling and support

The centre offers various programmes, in and around Amanzimtoti, to support individuals and families facing an unplanned pregnancy.

FACING an unplanned pregnancy can be difficult for both individuals and their families, which is why Hope for the Heart Pregnancy Care Centre offers free counselling and support.

The non-profit organisation, established in 2017, was created to assist vulnerable men and women who face an unplanned pregnancy. They provide confidential and caring support through their various programmes, enabling those in need to explore all options available.

The founder of the organisation, Jane Wright said, “Making choices is so difficult when we are in the haze of an unplanned pregnancy. Our pregnancy centre is here to assist and love parents to make the best choices for themselves and their baby. Our support is available for the entire journey, and we bring hope when it is needed most,” said Wright.

She added that people seem to think pregnancy only affects the individual when in reality, it can affect a whole family. They also do counselling for co-parenting, to help former couples overcome personal situations and work together for the child’s sake.

Some of the programmes they offer include:

  • Pregnancy options counselling – to help young people make informed decisions through information.
  • Single parent support and assistance – to assist single parents through donations such as formula, nappies and clothes as well as to offer group and one-on-one counselling.
  • Mother-wellness community support group – to create a safe space for mothers to connect and discuss various topics.
  • Legacy dad programme – to educate and equip fathers on the importance of their role.
  • Post-abortion / miscarriage recovery – to reach and support individuals who have lost a child.
  • Sexual health programme – to equip youth with sexual health education.

Although they do not diagnose or offer medical advice, their ultrasound and dopler machine allows expectant mothers to see and hear their babies.
