Kuswag Skool’s top matriculant is an all-round achiever

She said her matric year was super busy, juggling all the activities she took part in and keeping up with the high academic standard she had set for herself.

SUMANÉ Jacobs, Kuswag Skool’s best achiever in the school’s Class of 2022 matriculants, says she will continue to achieve the standards she sets for herself when she studies accountancy.

Sumané said her year was super busy, juggling sport, extra-curricular activities and academics. “The year was also greatly stressful because of the pressure to achieve the standards I set for myself. I am extremely happy with my results. Of course, there are one or two subjects I would have loved to have higher results in, but in the end, I am ecstatic with what I achieved,” she said.

The top learner said she accomplished a lot last year. “I played one of the leads in our school’s drama, which won the district finals of Tienertoneel; I played for the first hockey team; I was the matric winner of internal orators, and the runner-up in English Best Speaker. I was named the Academic Leader of 2022 and received Cum Laude colours. I was also privileged enough to be the Head Girl,” said Sumané.

Her study routine was merely to study every time she had the chance. “My advice to the matrics of 2023 will be to revise every past paper you can get your hands on and give everything you can – you won’t be sorry,” she said.

This year, she will be studying for a BCom in Accounting at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, giving extra classes to learners in her free time and looking for an internship at a financial establishment.

“My greatest goal is to become a chartered accountant. I want to be in the position to help people who are less fortunate, who do not get the opportunities we take for granted. I would also love to travel the world and get to learn about all the great cultures and people out there,” said Sumané.

She thanks her peers and teachers, as well as friends and family. “As a rather small school, we have the privilege to be like a close-knit family – everyone is always there to push you a little harder and to give you that little extra you need to excel. I would also like to thank my friends and family for their support, but mostly, I want to thank my parents and siblings for everything they sacrificed for me to accomplish everything that I have. And last but not least, I want to thank my Lord and Saviour who blessed me to be able to reach my goals and dreams,” she said.
