Driver arrested for stolen copper in Prospecton

The vehicle found in a scrap-metal yard is believed to have been used in many registered cases of theft.

A DRIVER of a car that was loaded with suspected stolen copper was taken in for questioning after the load was discovered in Prospecton on Tuesday, January 3.

In a statement, PT Alarms Fire and Security said its tactical unit officers responded to a tip-off regarding a white bakkie that had been seen travelling on the N2 southbound and was believed to be carrying stolen copper from a company in the North Coast area.

“Officers went in search of the vehicle, and within minutes, the said vehicle was found at a local scrap-metal yard in the Prospecton area. There are said to be many cases registered involving the vehicle. The driver was questioned, and together with assistance from the scrap-metal dealers, the vehicle was offloaded and the copper recovered,” read the statement.

After Isipingo SAPS was notified, the vehicle was impounded and the driver was arrested pending further investigations.
