AfriForum plants trees for Arbour Month

Learners at Kuswag Skool helped AfriForum plant a few trees along the school's field.

IN COMMEMORATION of Arbour Month, AfriForum Amanzimtoti and a few learners at Kuswag Skool, planted trees on the school field recently.

Every year AfriForum plants trees during Arbour Month. This year it was held at Kuswag Skool, where the youth of Helpende Hand Amanzimtoti could join in.

Chairperson of AfriForum Amanzimtoti, Jannie van Staden, and AfriForum district coordinator in KZN, Eugene van Aswegen, demonstrated how to correctly plant a tree. Thereafter, the learners took turns digging, placing the soil and planting the trees.

Van Staden thanked Crisna van der Bank and Max Brooks of RE/MAX, for sponsoring the trees and compost. He also thanked the school for giving the youth the opportunity to participate as well as for providing space for the trees.

The school’s Natalie Hatting, extended a thanks to AfriForum and the learners who helped plant the trees. “We are proud that the need to preserve, protect and plant trees for environmental and human ideals for our school and our community is so important,” she said.

AfriForum is a civil rights organisation that mobilises Afrikaners, Afrikaans-speaking people and other minority groups in South Africa and protects their rights.

AfriForum Amanzimtoti secretary, Bianca Dormehl said, “AfriForum is not an ordinary organisation, but a vehicle to create a better future for us and our descendants.”
