“The more helping hands and assistance provided, the more we can achieve to protect marine life and ensure a clean environment for all,” said founder of Clean Surf Project, Denzil van der Westhuizen.

He said the past few months have been incredibly busy and overwhelming, with clean up teams from Clean Surf Project as well as the Sapphire Coast Tourism PEP (Public Employment Programme) working on a daily basis to clear and maintain the coastline stretching from Dakota Beach to Illovo Beach as well as Ilanda Wilds at Amanzimtoti Sports Centre.

“Our gratitude goes to all team members involved for continuing the fight against plastic pollution, whether the sun is shining, wind is blowing, rainfall and so forth. It’s not the most easy and comfortable task for sure, but most rewarding at the end with plastic waste being removed from the coastline and river embankments,” said Denzil.

They invite community members, local organisations and/ or businesses to join the clean up to keep the oceans plastic free and clean.
