Elzaan Le Roux of Doonside is a teacher at Umbogintwini Primary School and entered her first International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) competition in May at the KZN Ironman Novice Show.

“I placed first in the beach bikini U1.63 division. I was absolutely blown away by the whole experience. This brought structure and discipline into my everyday life. My coaches had big plans set for KZN provincials,” said Elzaan.

On Saturday, August 20, she participated in the IFBB Provincial Championships which were held in Merewent, and also placed first in the beach bikini U1.63 division and qualified to represent KZN at the nationals in Gauteng. Elzaan trains under Riaan and Rachel Dohne of RiShape Angels.

“I have had the most amazing team behind me, making me believe living my dream is possible. My partner, Jacques Kruger, has been there for me through every step of the way. I appreciate him for having so much patience with me during my intense prep time. My family, as well, has been supporting me all the way through. God has truly blessed me with an amazing support structure,” she said.

She added that being an athlete comes with a lot of sacrifices that other people do not fully understand as you have to put aside social gatherings, and your daily routines undergo change, which affects your personal and social life.

“My advice to anyone wanting to compete is to believe in yourself, and don’t be afraid to work hard to achieve your goals,” she said.
