Durban photographer celebrates milestone on World Photography Day
Since 2019, for the last 1 300 days, Ryan Joffe has been taking one photo a day, without fail.
PHOTOGRAPHER and uMhlanga resident, Ryan Joffe, celebrated World Photography Day in style on Friday, August 19, taking his 1 300th successive photo in a row.
The annual day is a celebration of the ‘art, craft, science and history of photography’ according to the World Photography Day website.
Since 2019, Joffe has been taking one photo a day, for the last 1 300 days, without fail.
He recently shared some of his newest snaps on the milestone occasion, including an incredible photo of a rainbow wave near Bronze Beach in uMhlanga.
“I was scrolling through the Facebook feed and, more often than not, there was just bad news everywhere. Even in an innocuous story, people were fighting in the comments section. So, taking photos every day and sharing them on my profile was my way of combating that and creating positivity.
“It’s now become something that is synonymous with my day and that I love doing. My one rule is that I cannot photograph family or things going on at work. The first few weeks were quite difficult but, as time went on, it got easier. It makes you look at things differently,” he said.
His photo a day has also inspired his daughter, Oriah, and his son, Samuel, who sometimes take photos, too.
