Saturday, May 21
Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve Open Morning
THE next ‘Open Morning’ at the Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve takes place on Saturday, May 21, from 08:00 to 13:00. There will also be a walk for bird lovers which begins at 08:15. To book, simply message on the Beachwood Mangroves Reserve Facebook page. Bring your own binoculars. Self walks or guided walks, by the North Durban Honorary Officers, through the Mangroves, are also available. There will also be plants on sale from the reserve’s nursery for the enthusiastic gardener. Entrance is free, and all are welcome.
Monthly beach clean-up
The next #CleanBlueLagoon beach clean-up takes place this Saturday, May 21, from 08:00 to 11:00. Bags to collect rubbish will be provided, however, you will also need gloves, a hat, water, sunscreen. Everyone is welcome, and after the recent KZN floods, the beaches are in need of attention. Organisers are calling on Durban’s residents to lend their support to this month’s clean-up.

Pop Opera Concert
Enjoy a glorious autumn afternoon, outside, in the company of hundreds of musicians – the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, with soloists Natalie Rungan and Njabulo Nzuza, and the KZN Youth Wind Band – on the Glenwood High School Dixon’s Field on Sunday, May 22, at 15:00. The idea is to bring along a picnic and blankets and enjoy a lazy al fresco musical afternoon. Tickets for adults cost R150, and it’s R100 for children. Book in advance or pay at the door. Art in the Country
Art in the Country will take place in Harrington House in Hilton from May 27 to 29. The inaugural exhibition will host 40 leading artists from across South Africa. The event will revive a proud tradition of artistic endeavour that put Pietermaritzburg on the map as the host city of Art in the Park more than 60 years ago.
