Ward 97 councillor updates on water supply

A TLB excavator is on site and a team is ready to start once the damaged pipe, located by a team that physically walked the line through dense bush, has been excavated.

ON Tuesday, May 3, ward 97 councillor, André Beetge provided an update on the water outage affecting parts of Amanzimtoti.
The water outage is affecting properties that draw from the Lewis Drive reservoir.
Following taps starting to run dry from Saturday morning, Beetge and his team engaged officials from eThekwini water to determine the cause and action required to rectify to full flow capacity.
“Several discussions and arguments later, we are in the fortunate position to confirm that the cause of the water outage has now been identified as a burst AC pipe on the 375mm trunk main leading off the Umgeni supply towards Lewis Drive,” said Beetge.
The tricky part, however, is that the burst pipe is located at the bottom of a valley, some 150m down in dense bush.
A TLB is on site and a team is ready to start once the damaged pipe, located by a team that physically walked the line through dense bush, has been excavated.
“We have in the meantime again requested that tankers be sent to assist with water supply to the effected areas of Amanzimtoti,” he said.
