Anticipation builds for Saturday’s Highland Gathering

The rickshaw bus from Durban Tourism will be circulating through the town from the sports field down to Beach Road, where you can just hop on or off any time between 08:00 and 16:00.

ON Friday, April 29, Ward 97 councillor André Beetge provided a live update from Hutchinson Park where bag pipers are practicing and tents being set-up ahead of the Highland Gathering on Saturday, April 30.

“The Scottish bagpipes are playing, because that’s what it is about this weekend in Amanzimtoti as we host the 59th annual Highland Gathering, the biggest congregation of Scottish bands in the southern hemisphere.

“As I look around me on the green grass, all beautifully mowed and cut, I’m standing where the children’s area is going to be where your little ones will enjoy themselves tomorrow with inflatables and more.

“There’s going to be a classic car show, we have rickshaws coming in all the way from Durban to entertain us. I look across the main field where all the activity is going to be playing and the bands and I see the tents of Richelieu advertising their product, SAB, food stalls, the action arena, estate agents, flea market, structures going up, bands playing, people already enjoying the lovely scenery,” said Beetge.

There’s ponies for the children next to the outdoor gym. If you have got nothing to do, if you have got something to do, there is no where else you would want to do it, but in Amanzimtoti at Hutchinson Park on Saturday, April 30, gates open at 09:00, tickets are R50, R30 for pensioners/ children and children under six are free.

There will be a mass band at about 17:00 and the bars will stay open until about 21:00. With a line-up of some of your most popular bands. This is the place to be.

“The rickshaw bus from Durban Tourism will be circulating through the town from the sports field down to Beach Road, where you can just hop on or off any time between 08:00 and 16:00.

Just don’t get lost in the beer tent, cause once it departs, you’ll have to crawl home,” said Beetge.
