Amanzimtoti Bowling Club members step up to the plate

Three club members will represent Port Natal Bowls in the inter-districts.

AMANZIMTOTI Bowling Club (ABC) congratulate two of its members on being willing to step up to serve bowls in the wider arena.

Delysia Mitchley has been invited to become a women’s selector for the Port Natal District (PNB), and Susan Nel, who is already a national selector and elite coach at national and district level, will be accompanying the Protea bowlers to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham (UK) in a few months’ time.

The members of the club enjoyed the men and women’s mutton 4s, in relatively cooler weather. Dave Kemp, Cleve Hein, Vish Studinski and Andrew Walker managed to win the first prize. Second prize went to Alec Stirzaker, Phil Whitton, Keith West and Mike Pitchers while Peter Callaghan, Ian Mills, Dallas Davis and Trevor Osborne took the second session prize.

In the women’s mutton competition, the winners were Michelle Pitchers, Lynn Joubert, Cathy Badenhorst and Lesley Levy. Runners-up were Vera Broskie, Dawn Schauer, Sue Blount and Jacqui Birch. Heather Brown, Leigh Callaghan, Noreen Butler and Marilyn Thiart won the second session.

In the Hypersure mixed trips, the team of Adie Fuller, Phil Whitton and Amanda Ninow are still in the lead, followed by Doreen Salmond, Tokkie and Kokkie de Kock. The women’s 4’s is progressing well, with another two games having been played.

Susan Nel, Amanda Ninow, Hilary Lindsay and Charlotte Boyers are through to the semi-finals, and Ann Whitton, Michelle Pitchers, Dawn Schauer and Adriane Robbins are through to the finals.

The inter-districts are coming up shortly – from March 7 to 11. The club has three members who are part of the teams representing PNB – Susan Nel who will skip the open side which is competing in Pretoria; Doreen Salmond who will skip the veterans’ side playing in East London, and Nicky Stirzaker in the B side which will play in Pietermaritzburg. The club wish them safe travels and very good bowling.

There are several fun competitions coming up soon, starting with ‘dirty trips’. There will also be an Easter bowling festival from April 15 to 18, and you can join in for any one of the days or play them all if you like.

There will be different games and formats on the various days, and some are drawn and some are nominated, so see the notice board or contact the club for details. Visiting bowlers are also welcome.

Birthday greetings for the week go to Leonie Mills, Peter Behn and Gary Wise.
