He was there to launch the East Coast Brewery parkrun in Umkomaas. Amanzimtoti Athletic Club’s secretary, Jodine Momberg said the club invited him for a braai and for him tell them more about his new book, Winged Messenger. The book provides a glimpse into his training logs back when he was training for his first Comrades Marathon.

“Members had the opportunity to have their photos taken with Bruce and have their books signed. On Sunday morning he and his wife, Gill, surprised members by joining us for a training run from Synergy Café at Arbor Crossing. It was a great honour for our club to host him for the weekend,” said Momberg.

Bruce won the Comrades Marathon a record nine times, of which eight were consecutive.
