Isipingo informal settlement residents protest election results
Some residents of Isipingo are not happy that a new political party has been elected to oversee the ward.
THINGS came to a standstill in Isipingo on Monday, November 8 when residents from the Isipingo informal settlement closed off Old Main Road with burning tyres to protest the results of the recent Local Government Elections.
Isipingo falls under ward 90, that, before the recent elections, was overseen by an ANC councillor. The DA won the ward at the Local Government Elections.

On their placards, they disputed the results and called on the Independent Electoral Commission to explain why some of them were turned away at the voting stations. They allege their names did not appear on the voters’ roll. The crowds were quickly cleared by police, who reopened the road to allow for a free flow of traffic.
In August, the same residents protested outside the home of an ANC councillor in Lotus Park and demanded food parcels. They left empty handed as they were dispersed by police.

The police are still monitoring the situation in Isipingo.
