Teen seeks to inspire her peers
The Face of Culture Diversity 2021 finalist said she came up with the idea after noticing a loss of morals in some of the youth from her township.
A TEENAGER from Lovu Township hopes to empower girls with her recently registered non-profit organisation. The Garden Club is 19-year-old Hlengiwe Mfeka’s brainchild and its aim is to guide young women.

The Face of Culture Diversity 2021 finalist said she came up with the idea after noticing a loss of morals in some of the youth from her township.
“I want young women to be able to transform themselves and others and make decisions of their own in every dimension of their lives. We meet on weekends and motivate each other and we share ideas and confide in each other,” said Hlengiwe.
On Saturday, September 25, she invited guest speakers, Busisiwe Mbatha, who is a nurse and her mentor, and Thembeka Mkhize, a social worker. The two guests talked with the girls about how to deal with different stages that come with being a young woman. She also shared feminine personal care packs with her peers.
