Lorna Sourgen retains her championship title at Winklespruit Bowling Club

In yet another contested game both teams where trying to forge a way in front, but each team found themselves being pegged back by their opponents.

WINKLESPRUIT Bowling Club’s (WBC) competition secretary’s pushed hard to get the outstanding games played as the prize giving function is fast approaching.

Thanks to all the players who made the effort to play the games, considering such short notice.

The women’s senior singles final was played between the defending women’s senior champion, Lorna Sourgen and Lou Bingham. It was an evenly contested game, but as it progressed Lorna gradually pulled ahead and managed to achieve a winning margin to retain her title for another year. Well done to both women in what turned out to be a very highly contested final.

In another final, Mike and Di Kruger came up against Rob Hilton and Elmarie Young in the nominated mixed 2-4-2 pairs. In yet another contested game both teams where trying to forge a way in front, but each team found themselves being pegged back by their opponents.

In the end, Elmarie and Rob were victorious to take the title. Well done to both teams for making it to the final.

In the men’s nominated 2-4-2, Freddy Hetterscheidt and Les Gibbens took on Mike Kruger and André Gelderblom in a highly contested game and ended with Freddy and Les going through to the next round by the closest of margins.

Hans de Waal and André Gelderblom played against Kokkie de Kock and Freddy Hetterscheidt in the men’s drawn 2-4-2 which resulted in Kokkie and Freddy advancing to the next round.

In the men’s senior singles Paul Hedly beat Ken Baker.

In the mixed nominated pairs Barrie and Shirley de Wee beat Steve and Dot Liebetrau.

The club hosted the annual Moth fun day on Saturday, September 18, and the event was well supported by the club and Moth members.

On Sunday, November 28, the club will host a curry and rice evening at 17:30 for 18:00. More information to follow.

Social bowls is every Wednesday and Friday, tabs in at 13:30 for 14:00. Note there is a surcharge for refreshments on social bowls days.

Birthday greetings for the week go to Margie van Belkum, Basil Ananiadis, Wessie van der Westhuizen and Estelle van der Merwe.

A reminder to members to return bowls equipment after completion of your game.
