Amanzimtoti pigeon racers take the lead in weekend race

The homing pigeons flew about 480km from Middelburg.

AMANZIMTOTI Racing Pigeon Club (ARPC) flew its fifth race of the season, and first of the yearling races from Amersfoort on Saturday, June 26.

Basil Tait, flying out of Umkomaas, flew a particularly good race, winning the club and federation as well as taking three of the top four positions.

His partner, Jana Viviers, flying from the same loft, took second position, one second behind the winner.

Race six, an open age race, was flown from Middelburg on Saturday, July 3.

The birds were liberated in good weather at 07:30 and arrived home at 12:43, covering the 480km at an average speed of 92km per hour.

Doug Fry was first and third in the club and was placed third in the Durban Federation.

Danny Bradshaw was second and finished fourth in the federation.
