Kuswag principal puts down his chalk and retires

"I have loved every minute of being at Kuswag," said Chris Lindeque.

Principal of Kuswag Skool Chris Lindeque retired at the end of April after serving at the school for the past 27 years. During his farewell function, a certificate of appreciation was handed to him by Kuswag’s former principal, Linda Scholtz.

“He served the school with dedication and no task was ever too much for him, parents, staff, the education department and learners can testify to that. In everything he has done over the years,” she said.

Lindeque was born on December 15, 1959, in Germiston, old Transvaal and matriculated at Dirkie Uys High School on the Bluff.  After school, he studied at the Durban College of Education where he qualified as a teacher. His first job was at Greytown Elementary School, the only other school where he taught, where he gained 10 years of experience.  In July 1994, he was appointed head of the department, just after the high school and primary school across the railway line was combined as Kuswag.  In 2001, he was appointed as deputy principal at the primary school, a position he would hold for 16 years. He was appointed as the sixth principal of Kuswag Skool in 2017.

“Thank you for the loyalty and respect from the staff, parents and learners. It has been a privilege to serve at the school. I have loved every minute of being at Kuswag. The community at large has also been wonderful,” said Lindeque.

He is married to Bernadette ‘Berni’ and they have two daughters, Bianca and Cara.

“We wish him a very blessed and healthy retirement period. May he now have more time to spend with his family and do more of the things he would like to do. Kuswag also thanks you very much for giving us only your best,” said acting principal, Pieter van der Spuy.
