The week long celebration included pop-a-balloon, gifts, 50 per cent discounts, free pancakes and a lucky draw.

Solidarity Helping Hand’s popular charity donation shop, Ons Winkel, (Our Shop) celebrated first birthday on Wednesday, 24 February.  The store offered incredible savings and fun-filled prize giveaways in honour of it milestone.

The week long celebration included pop-a-balloon, gifts, 50 per cent discounts, free pancakes and a lucky draw.

“The turn out was incredible. So many new faces visited the store. It was just wonderful to see so many people supporting us,” said Karen Duyvestyn, the owner of Ons Winkel, Amanzimtoti, one of almost 60 such charity shops nationwide, situated on 25 Main Road in Doonside.  “Thank you to everyone who supported us. We also received so many donations. Here’s hoping for many, many birthdays.”

The store is open six days a week from 9am to 5pm on weekdays and 8am to 12pm on Saturdays.  Ons Winkel also appeals for donations of clothing, furniture, antiques, kitchenware, bedding, curtains, toys, shoes, sports and technological equipment to anything else cluttering your home.

“We are also advertising items on our Facebook page, so residents can browse through online and pick up their goods at our store,” she added.

Helping Hand’s Study Fund provides interest-free study loans to needy students who qualify to study further, but do not have the financial means to do so.  The proceeds are also used for several other projects, such as children and senior organisations that are aimed at alleviating, ending and preventing poverty.  For more information, contact Karen on 084-798-6394.
