[WATCH] – SoH develops a passion for reading

This passion for books and reading was inspired by the first annual book week which was held in October last year with superheroes and secret strengths as the theme.

Seed of Hope’s (SoH) after-school programme, Simunye plans to inspire children from Bhekulwandle community to develop the love of reading through the SoH book club.

This passion for books and reading was inspired by the first annual book week which was held in October last year with superheroes and secret strengths as the theme. The learners made their own costumes based on the stories they had read.

“The Simunye learners really enjoyed book week and we had a number of them enter the poetry and storytelling competition that we hosted. The children’s response to book week gave birth to the idea of starting a book club,” said Nozipho Dhlamini, the child and youth development manager at SoH.

“I truly believe that literature and reading is what we need to set the next generation apart. This belief has encouraged me to start a reading segment on YouTube called ‘We Read Wednesdays’ with my three-year-old son to encourage other parents to read to their children,” added Nozipho.
