Help needed to purchase Khanya Hospice in-patient unit

Khanya Hospice is not government supported and if it was not for wonderful people and companies, we would have closed our doors long ago.

In 2021, Khanya Hospice can boast a proud history under the guidance of current CEO, Neil McDonald and chairman of the board, Preeth Singh. It remains a valuable asset and deserving of support. Since Neil took over 12 years ago, his passion and vision was to re-open the in-patient unit that was closed in 2000. “It is not viable to have three or four patients. The board decided that that is a good idea and all stops were pulled out to start planning, either to build a new 20-bed facility or buy a suitable building. There is such a facility standing empty in Amanzimtoti that we have looked at. If we open the doors today, it will be full tomorrow. We do not have debt and would not like to make debt to purchase a place,” said Neil. The board asks businesses, businessmen and woman, families and individuals who would like to participate in raising the funds to purchase this turnkey building to contact Neil on 083-597-8985 or email manager@khanyahospice.org.za.

“Khanya Hospice is not government supported and if it was not for wonderful people and companies who help and donate on a regular basis to support the free palliative nursing care that we offer, we would have closed our doors long ago. On average, we buy about R6 000 worth of medical supplies, wound care medication and wound dressing, which are very expensive. We have not escaped the devastating financial effect Covid-19 has had on the country and worldwide, but we have to do what we have to do with the limited resources that we have. Patient care to us is priority. I love the work that I am doing and call my nurses ‘angels’ as they truely are – always helping and going out of their way to make sure their patient care tops. Our three Hospice shops are our income-generating project and we are always looking for volunteers to help in them. We need hands to unpack the donated items, price them and get them on the shelves to be sold.” If anyone, young or retired, wants to come and help us, contact Neil.
