Port Natal Bowls just announced its inter-districts women’s sides for 2021, and Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC) is proud to congratulate five of its members on being included in the selection. Doreen Salmond and Jane Coetzee have been selected for the Port Natal veterans side; Jeanne Alexander has been selected to the Port Natal B side, and Nicky Stirzaker and Tokkie de Kock to the president’s side. They join Dion Audie, who is skip of the Port Natal open ‘A’ side as district players.

Saturday morning, 28 November, saw the women’s novice singles get a head start for 2021 at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club. The format was a round-robin and the first two rounds were played on Saturday, with three more to go. There was an amazingly high standard of bowls on display, which bodes well for the future of the club. Lesley Levy made a late start in her first game against her sister, Hilary Lindsay, but pulled ahead from the eighth end and stayed in the lead to win the game. In Lesley’s second game against Jenny Rautenbach, they peeled seven times in 23 ends before Lesley managed to prevail again.

Cathy Badenhorst’s game against Jenny Rautenbach was a marathon 29 ends taking two and a half hours before Cathy eventually managed to seal her first game. Then in Cathy’s second game against Karen Glover, she managed to win by a narrow two shot margin after being peels on 19 shots.

Karen Glover and Hilary Lindsay both won one and lost one. Jaylene Fagan showed her fighting spirit in both her games against Karen Glover and Hilary Lindsay, as despite losing both games she made a valiant come-back in both games and fought to the end. Good bowling to all six players in the next three rounds.

Burgers and bowls will return to ABC on Thursday, 10 December, at 5pm. The cost is R30 for the game and R35 for a burger. As usual it is open to bowlers and non-bowlers as long as flat soled shoes are worn. Bring your family and friends and have a fun evening under floodlights.

December is here, and ABC’s annual men’s and women’s turkey day will be held on Saturday, 5 December, at 1pm for 1.30pm, with turkey and gammon up for prizes. On Sunday, 6 December, there will be a Pikardi Bazooka Shell Hole charity day in aid of the Jona Vaughn Centre.

The winner of the TGIF 100 board was Tokkie de Kock, and Bobby Henderson won the attendance draw, so that prize will go back to R100 next week. Mike Roberts did not manage to find the right key in the key draw, so the jackpot will be R9 260 with 15 keys to choose from next time.

Birthday greetings to Lesley Stephens-Viviers and Dot Liebetrau.
