Amanzimtoti woman (76) mugged near post office

The victim, 76-year-old Lesley Shepard, cautions others to be aware of their surroundings at all times.

Lesley Shepard, 76, was recently robbed of a gold chain near Amanzimtoti Post Office and cautions others to be aware of their surroundings at all times.

“The incident happened so quick and it was so unexpected. I had noticed the man from across the road and assumed he was trying to direct me to earn a tip. When I parked my car I got a fright when I saw him standing at my window. I tried to jump out of the car and he grabbed my gold chain and ran off,” said Shepard.

She believes that she was an easy target because she was alone in the car and encourages other elderly people to travel in pairs.

“The chain had a great sentimental value to it. Almost 30 years ago my mom and I bought matching chains together. I never took it off and I’m just so sad that it is now gone. I am also grateful that nothing worse happened.”
