Sharks rugby player scores for Domino Foundation
Mapimpi donated non-perishables and 140 food hampers to Domino’s disaster relief unit.
Before Covid-19 shut the door, the young men of the Cell C Sharks Academy were about to kick their relationship with the Domino Foundation up a notch by giving PE lessons to the learners in the life skills programme.
Lockdown put a temporary hold on that. However, stirred by stories of how lockdown was adversely affecting the young learners and other beneficiaries of Domino’s programmes, Shark’s wing, Makazole Mapimpi, swung into action and made a personal donation of bulk non-perishables and 140 food hampers to Domino’s disaster relief unit. The unit has distributed almost one and a half million meals to the vulnerable in Durban’s communities over the past five months.
Makazole was supported by Sharks captain, Lukhanyo Am, and fellow player, Skhumbuzo Notshe, when he handed over his gift to Tarin Stevenson, Domino’s donor relations manager. “As rugby players, we are so aware of how important working as a team is. Whatever position we are playing, our individual contribution to the team’s success is vital. It is my pleasure to team together with Domino to beat this opponent, Covid-19,” said Mapimpi.
