Amanzimtoti designer to flaunt her fashion at virtual Vodacom July

With this year’s theme ‘Butterflies’, she is taking inspiration from the metaphorphasis of the butterfly.

Madelain Clark has been included in the virtual Vodacom Durban July Invited Designer Showcase taking place this Saturday, 25 July. “I’m very excited to have a bit of glamour back in my life. I absolutely think it’s a good idea to do a virtual Vodacom July, rather than scrap it, as it’s one of the country’s biggest fashion platforms and we all have to adjust to the new norm as to how we do things.

As any designer will tell you – we love a new challenge, so I’m very honoured to be one of the invited designers to the first ever virtual Vodacom Durban July.” Only 10 designers countrywide were invited to showcase their designs, a tribute to Madelain’s renowned talent. “Being included this year will definitely make us part of history.

It’s definitely challenging (being virtual), as we had to film our own interviews, and fittings with models are also very limited. There were many time constraints from the reopening of fabric suppliers during lockdown and constant changing dates of the event according to government rules.”

With this year’s theme ‘Butterflies’, she is taking inspiration from the metaphorphasis of the butterfly. “I feel we can all relate, as we are going through big change at the moment. I was very in touch with nature during this time and will be drawing a lot in terms of textures and colour as inspiration for my garment from this. For me the butterfly is a symbol of hope, tranquility and strength, and I hope to express this in my creation.”

Because of social distancing, each designer is only allowed one model on track and Madelain will present a lady’s ensemble. She has showcased her designs at the Vodacom July so many times, she has lost count and over the years she has won an award in every category.

“Unfortunately with the Vodacom Durban July happening behind closed doors (due to lockdown regulations), I will watch from home. All fashion and interviews will be pre-filmed on Friday, 24 July at Greyville to be aired on race day on Saturday. I have had a love for creating fashion from a very young age and am blessed to still be living my dream.”
