Organisation aims to walk a path with needy

The organisation is based in the Amanzimtoti CBD and caters to those who are serious about changing their behaviour.

With lockdown regulations easing down, local organisation, Wanderers Haven, hopes to get back on track with its mission of uplifting and empowering individuals.

During level four and five of lockdown, the organisation was forced to shift focus to provide meals to families in need. The organisation was founded by husband and wife duo, Sharon and Johnny Swanepoel. When the organisation first opened its doors in Amanzimtoti, they assisted 30 families by walking a path with them. At least 111 families were provided with hot meals and food parcels were distributed for the homeless during lockdown.

“Our mission is not just to provide a hot meal to those in need, but we are committed to building a solid relationship with them. We want to find solutions so that those in need can find ways to empower themselves and make them self-sufficient individuals. We want to walk a path with those who are committed to changing for the better. This in turn address the current condition of our community,” said Johnny.

“We rely on donations from the public and surrounding businesses to help us provide the assistance needed to get residents rehabilitated. We help those in need find employment, shelter and enter drug rehabilitation centres. Let us come together as a community and uplift our town and fellow residents. If we all do our bit, we can take back dignity one step at a time, one person at a time,” he added.

The organisation also runs a charity shop to generate funds and appeals to the community to donate any items that they no longer require. Funds can also be donated through the following bank details: Capitec Bank,Wanderers Haven: savings account, account number: 1468687415.
